‘Tis the Season – Holiday Highlights of the East Bay

This time of year in our area can bring out the best parts of us, even through shorter days and (thankfully) rainy weather. This brief list of holiday activities shows off some of the best the East Bay has to offer.

Holiday Light Shows

Here is a wonderful guide of where to see some of the best light shows in the East Bay and beyond. Picardy Drive in Oakland and Christmas Tree Lane in Alameda are fan favorites.[spacer height=”10px”]

Graham Lustig’s The Nutcracker

The perennial story of a dashing hero, a brave maiden, and a magical world of sweets and delights set to one of the most famous scores in music. The Oakland Ballet Company proudly presents Graham Lustig’s The Nutcracker at the Paramount Theater. The ballet runs from December 17-18.

For an added treat you can also meet the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Nutcracker Prince, Clara and more characters from the ballet at the Land of Sweets Tea Party immediately following the matinee performances. Tickets sold separately.[spacer height=”20px”]

Shopping

This is the season of giving, and if you are looking for a special gift, there are plenty of places to explore, especially in Oakland. Head out to a local small business and find a unique gift for someone, or for yourself!

Gingerbread House

Gingerbread House at Fairmont: San Francisco Holiday HotelNot to leave out the other side of the Bay, the Gingerbread House display at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco is not to be missed. 22 feet high and 23 feet wide the display stands two stories tall and boast more than a ton of royal icing! The display will be open through January 1.
